Rahul Gandhi (Photo credit: Wikipedia)SHIMLA: Even as the Congress takes on the BJP in Himachal Pradesh on the issue of corruption, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi sharing a dais with Virbhadra Singh, who had resign from union cabinet on charges of corruption, is likely to send out a wrong signal. Himachal is going to polls in four months.
Many, within the Congress, are criticising the move to make Virbhadra, who has been the state's CM for a record five times, the chairman of the campaign committee for the party. "It is sending wrong signal but we are helpless," said a Congress leader requesting anonymity.
Virbhadra had resigned from the union ministry last month after a court on June 25 had framed corruption charges against him. Rahul had shared the dais with him in Kullu on Tuesday during his two-day visit to the district to take stock of the preparations ahead of the assembly elections.
State BJP president Satpal Singh Satti said this has exposed the double standards of Congress. "The Congress party claims that it has been fighting corruption but at the same time the party is handing over the reigns of election campaign to tainted leaders like Virbhadra Singh," Satti said, adding that Congress is projecting Virbhadra due to lacks leadership in state.
On the issue of corruption, opposition Congress had recently disrupted the budget session of assembly for many days and had even forced the then health minister Dr Rajeev Bindal to resign.
