Rain brings mercury down in north India

Rains have come down pretty heavily this monsoon           (Photo credit: Wikipedia)NEW DELHI: North India experienced a pleasant day today as mercury remained well below normal level with monsoon showers drenching several parts of the region.

Though rains eluded the national capital, temperature hovered below normal as the maximum temperature settled at 33.9 degree Celsius, three degrees below normal.

The minimum was also recorded one degree below normal at 26.4 degree Celsius, the Met officesaid.


Narnaul in Haryana was drenched by 15 mm of rains while Patiala received three mm of rainfall.

In Haryana, Hisar was hottest at 37 degrees celsius, two notches below normal, while Ambala recorded the day temperature at 35.2 degrees celsius.

Amritsar in Punjab recorded the day temperature at 34.8 degrees celsius, two points below normal. Chandigarh and Ludhiana settled at an identical high of 34.1 degrees celsius, two notches each below normal.

In Himachal Pradesh, where eight people of a marriage party were washed away in flash floods yesterday, the catchment area of Yamuna river in Sirmaur district and a large parts of Kangra district were lashed by heavy rains today.

Paonta Sahib and Nahan in Sirmaur where lashed by heavy rains recording 101 mm and 64.4 mm of rains respectively, followed by Dharamsala 42.6 mm, Manali 20.2 mm, Solan 12.8 mm,Shimla and Sundernagar 9.5 mm.

The rains brought down the day temperatures by two to three degree in the state.

In Rajasthan, monsoon showers in the state capital Jaipur brought cheers after a brief interval today.

Weather in the morning was clear, but it changed during noon and rain drenched the city bringing down the day temperature.

Till evening, Jaipur recorded 26 mm rainfall followed by Sriganganagar and Churu at 5 mm and 2.1 mm respectively.
